The maple tree is one of the 5 rare trees in Taiwan. There are currently 88 giant Autumn Maple trees in Neicheng Village of Zhongliao Township, all were planted during the Japanese Colonization and thus are roughly 100 years old. The trees are located in a government declared nature reserve. Approximately several dozen Autumn Maple Trees are over 70 years of age; wildlife is flourishing in the reserve, almost restoring its primitive appearance.
