利澤沙丘海岸因獨特三角洲地形關係，受到海蝕作用影響，生態資源豐富，是學校舉辦校外教學的最佳場所，同時也是當地人童年的回憶，無論是海釣、聽濤、看海、戲潮，野趣十足，而蘭陽地區有一「龜蛇把海口」傳說，「龜」指龜山島，「蛇」指綿延的沙丘，而利澤沙丘海岸為其中的一段。
